Tools for installers
It's happen to all of us. Day (or night) of deployment comes and we are in a inhospitable environment trying to plug all the pieces of our interactive montage together.
Electronics
- Your mobile phone, see Apps below.
- Laptop Mac, Windows, Linux...
- Ethernet-USB Adapter (if the laptop doesn't have one).
- 2 x Ethernet Cable Cat6 - 2m or more. Expect having to leave them there.
- 2 x USB Pen drives, FAT32 formatted. For system install and recovery, and for file transfers.
- 2 x HDMI Dummy plugs 4K. They'll allow to set up a headless PC without a monitor, and access it via remote desktop without the video card acting up.
- USB Cable Extension (Both A and C).
- HDMI Cable, 2m+. Expect also "losing" it.
- A good enough USB Webcam.
Tools
- Screwdriver/Key Set: As many as you have, you'll always miss the one you need.
- Flat.
- Philips.
- Torx.
- Allen (Hex) Keys.
- Tube Keys.
- Cutting Pliers
- Electrician Scissors
- Crocodile Pliers
- Tape Measure
- Calipers
- AK-47 for difficult clients. Just joking ;).
Materials
- Duct Tape (Gorilla/3M) and/or Chatterton (cloth) tape. (Tesa 4661).
- Electrical Tape (3M 1500NE20 or similar).
- Double Sided Tapes (3M VHB, for permanent, strong bond, and "carpet tape" for lighter, removable sticking).
- Cable ties in different sizes.
- Velcro ties.
- VESA screws, washers, bolts, various sizes (M3-M10...)
Useful Software (Mobile or laptop)
- USB Stick with ISO images for system recovery/Multiboot pen drive.
- Bubble Level App (Usually in the compass app).
- Wi-Fi scanner App (To check coverage and access point power).
- Remote Desktop clients: Anydesk, TeamViewer, VNC, etc.
Photography
- Tripod or Mini-Tripod ¼" cog (flexible octopus tripod even better).
- Bubble level (or app).
- Camera mount w. ball joint.
- Screw adapters, e.g. ¾"-¼".
